Dallas considers converting HOV lanes to toll lanes on LBJ

Posted: Updated:
DALLAS - While work on the LBJ Express project is nearly over, there are now plans to put toll lanes on another part of the freeway.

The LBJ East project would turn the HOV lanes from Greenville Avenue to Interstate 30 into mixed-use toll lanes.

The Texas Department of Transportation briefed the Dallas city council's transportation committee about the project on Monday.

Drivers with more than one person in their vehicle would still be able to use the HOV lanes for free, as long as they have a toll tag registered online.

People driving alone could also use the lanes for a fee.

If all goes as planned, the project could be completed by late 2016.
