Alliance-AFT, the teachers' group that represents Dallas ISD teachers, is now suing the district over the process of appointing people to a home-rule commission.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday.
Alliance-AFT claims DISD is not following laws enacted in 1995 that explain how the district appoints commission members.
The law states four members of the 15-member commission must be teachers selected by the district's advisory committee.
Advisory committee members are supposed to be elected, but Alliance-AFT claims the DISD members were appointed, not elected.
The group backing the home-rule plan wants the issue on the November ballot, but this lawsuit could delay that from happening.
