Businesses booming thanks to the World Cup

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Fans from around the world are piling into bars to cheer on their home country's team as the World Cup kicks off.

The Globe Pub on the Northwest Side of Chicago has been prepping for the big crowds for weeks.

"I'm expecting about 350-400 [people], so we've made arrangements with other bars to ship them out locally,” said Stuart Johnson of Globe Pub.

With 30 TV screens and beers from around the world, there's nothing this bar owner hasn't thought of.

“The major things that we've done is added toilets for the people. We've had to plan for extra food and liquor. We've tripled our staff,” added Johnson.

The most important thing for fans is obviously the TV screen, but when they're not looking at that, they're going to be checking out the bracket to find out who's going to win the World Cup.

One Croatian fan said he'll do whatever it takes to watch all of the games.

“During the day I work at a bank and I took my full vacation for the whole year, just so I can watch the games uninterrupted,” said Slavko Mitric.

Game 1, though, is just as important to Brazilians.

“I've been waiting for 7 years since Brazil was awarded the World Cup for this moment. I'm not there but I'm here at the Globe, and I couldn't be at a better place to watch the World Cup,” said Steve Janic.

However, no matter who wins, fans said the World Cup is about bringing everyone together.

It's the ambiance, the environment and the passion involved,” added Janic.
