Fire destroys Fort Worth church

Posted: Updated:
FORT WORTH, Texas - A Fort Worth church was completely destroyed in an overnight fire.

Neighbors reported seeing flames coming from the Greater Canaan Baptist Church in the 1600 block of Effie Street around 5 a.m.

"When I walk out the door there was nobody outside and then I looked to the side and the security guards were running down the street. And he was hollering to move the cars and we could already hear sirens," said Carmen Adon, a witness.

No one was hurt, but there is not much left of 55-year-old church building.

The pastor said his congregation plans to move on hopefully with help from other churches.

Fire officials are still sifting through the rubble and looking for a cause.
