ELY, Minn. (KMSP) -

A Boy Scouts troop is safe after being rescued from a lake in the Boundary Waters.

The troop of 8 people went into the water when their canoes capsized Thursday on Basswood Lake. A distress call went out and Lake County and Minnesota State Patrol rescuers used helicopters to pull the group from the cold water.

The 3 adults and 5 children were treated at Ely-Bloomenson Community Hospital Thursday night. They appeared to be in good condition, but several members of the troop were treated for hypothermia.

Strong winds reportedly caused the canoes to tip over. Three of the missing scouts were found near Canadian Point, and the 5 others were found just north of Washington Island.
