A Step Ahead Of Allergy Season

Posted: Updated:
Rahway, New Jersey (MY9NJ) - The flowers are blooming and the weather is beautiful but the pollen is sending more and more people to the drugstore. However, fighting seasonal allergies may be easier then usual thanks to Merck, the pharmaceutical company!

Merck came out with a little white pill that immunizes your body from certain allergens, such as grass. These pills are called Grastek and Ragwitek. An allergy patent, Dawn Thompson, spoke about the change in her symptoms after taking this pill.

"Itchy eyes, post nasal drip, sneezing, and all of those symptoms were greatly reduced by taking the medication," she said.

Dr. Ellen Sher, Asthma and Immunology Associates of NJ, sheds some light on why other generic allergy pills aren't as effective as their products.

"The homeopathic remedies have not been proven to be effective. They do not give a high enough dosage to induce a state of remission that we're looking for, you need to build up tolerance! You need a very large dose of allergen in order to do that," she said.

Grastek and Ragwitek needs to be taken about 3 months before the allergy season hits and then continue taking them during the allergy season. These pills are about $8 dollars a pill and are very natural for your body.

Dr. Sean Curtis, Vice President of Merck Research Laboratories, explains the break down of these allergy pills.

"It's timothy grass, it's a very specified amount, it's now a regulated amount, right so the FDA has approved it," he said.

These pills are so strong that the first time you take it, you need to have a doctor's supervision and go through a few tests to make sure this pill is right for you.

Nearly 40% of people in the Garden State are suffering this allergy season, maybe it's time to try something new!

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
