Burleson PD investigating string of burglaries; one suspect arrested

Posted: Updated:
Burleson police arrested a suspect Thursday in connection to several break-ins, and more arrests are coming soon.

Police say there's a very good reason why they immediately considered the suspects involved to be very dangerous.

Lisa Majerus just recently got her new SUV back after it was stolen. She says burglars broke into it about 2:45 a.m. Tuesday, but it's what they did next that still has her terrified.

"They broke into the car and then used the garage door opener, opened it didn't steal anything from the garage, entered through our house, came in through our living room, snatched the Playstation, Xbox, and some other things, some keys, and took off," said Majerus.

It all happened while she and her kids were home.

"My kids were asleep in their beds, and we were asleep,” she said.

Police arrested 20-year-old Angel Del Rio and say he was the one who stole Majerus’ silver Ford Edge.

A gang of thieves hit six cars that night in a north Burleson neighborhood, but Majerus' was the only one they stole.

On Wednesday, an officer spotted the stolen SUV at an IHOP in White Settlement. The investigation led police to Del Rio's family, and the suspect's relatives had no hesitation giving him up, gladly telling investigators that he was the one who stole the vehicle.

Deputy Chief Chris Havens is furious at how brazen the criminals were.

"But when you push it to the point where you open somebody's garage door, enter the garage, take their vehicle, but even more so, go further inside the residence, and that's where we've got the burglary of the residence, and take items in the house while you've got a family asleep, oh my gosh,” said Havens. “That's huge."

"It’s so scary to think that, you always say you'll be able to defend your home and you'd wake up to something like that, but to know that people were in your house while your kids are sleeping one bedroom away,” said Majerus.

Majerus said she and other neighbors have since seen increased patrols in their neighborhood.

Detectives say this is not the suspects’ first rodeo with this kind of crime -- they're reportedly wanted for crimes in other cities as well.
