Amber Alert lifted after 2-year-old boy found safe

Posted: Updated:
ADDISON, Texas - An Amber Alert issued Saturday afternoon for a 2-year-old boy has been lifted.

Police say 41-year-old Tommy Williams turned himself in and handed over 2-year-old Michael Mitchell safely to police.

Williams’ common-law wife and Mitchell’s grandmother Sandy Mitchell told FOX 4 Williams was not in his right mind when he took the child from an apartment complex in the 15000 block of Spectrum Road Saturday afternoon.
“He shaved his head, and told us that he was going to let the police kill him.”  Police had been searching for Williams’ 2004 black Mercedes Benz CL 500 and has received some tips when Williams turned himself in.

David Margulies of the Addison Police Department says a family argument led to the Amber Alert.  He spoke to FOX 4 Saturday night just after we received word of Mitchell’s return.  "Tommy Williams came to the Addison Police Department, turned himself in, the little boy was asleep in the back of the car, he's unharmed, he's in the police station right now as is Mister Williams.  Mister Williams will be questioned, Michael seems fine, and it seems like he's none the worse for wear so our prayers were answered tonight."

It’s not clear at this time whether charges will be filed.
