The family of a mentally ill man, who was shot and killed Saturday morning by Dallas police, believes the shooting didn’t have to happen.
It happened in the 200 block of Glencarin Drive.When officers arrived on scene they were confronted by a man they say was armed with a screwdriver.Police say there was an altercation and both officers shot Jason Harrison, 39, who died on scene.
Harrison’s brother, Shawn says Jason was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and had been in and out of the hospital for more than a decade.
Police have been called to Harrison’s home several times over the past few years.His family says as recently as two weeks ago, Jason had stopped taking his medication.
Investigators are reviewing body camera video and both officers have been placed on routine administrative leave.
