Swat standoff ends with Murphy teen in custody

Posted: Updated:
MURPHY, Texas - An 18 year old Murphy man was taken into custody early Sunday morning after a three hour standoff.

Police say they were called to the home in the 200 block of Grantham Lane by the girlfriend of 18 year old Bradley Barrows. Police say she told them Barrows was threatening to harm himself.

Police say two officers entered the home and called for Barrows to come out. After a brief exchange of words, police say a rifle was discharged inside the house in the direction of the officers who were walking up a staircase to speak to Barrows. The officers were not injured by the shot.

The officers left the house and called for backup. They started negotiating with Barrows and he later surrendered shortly after midnight.

Barrows was taken to Green Oaks Psychiatric Hospital. Once he’s cleared, he’ll be transported to the Collin County Detention Facility and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon on a public servant. The charges carry an automatic bond of $100,000 each.
