Police: Girl, 13, killed in hit-run on Long Island

Posted: Updated:

LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a driver has plowed into a teenage girl and killed her while she crossed a Long Island road. They're searching for the motorist.

The Nassau County Police Department says the 13-year-old girl was hit while crossing Hempstead Turnpike at Gardiners Avenue in Levittown just after midnight Saturday. She was taken to a hospital, where she died about 4 ½ hours later.

Police say the driver didn't stop and was last seen going east on Hempstead Turnpike and then turning north onto the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway. The vehicle is described as a late-model blue Town and Country minivan.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 1-800-244-TIPS.
