A hollering, agitated passenger who ignored pleas to calm down spurred a pilot to divert a New York-to-Las Vegas JetBlue plane to Detroit over the weekend.

That's according to a statement from JetBlue Airways Corp.

Flight 211 had departed John F. Kennedy International Airport at about 7 a.m.

JetBlue says the passenger became unruly, and the captain decided to land in Detroit at around 8:30 a.m. Saturday out of "an abundance of caution."

Passenter video shows a man standing, gesticulating and shouting, his remarks unclear, while a female voice exclaims, "Dad, stop it!" Flight attendants subdued the man and restrained him with plastic hand ties.

JetBlue says authorities in Detroit took him into custody. The plane left for Las Vegas about two hours later, arriving at around 11:30 a.m.

It appears the subway bedbug problem we've been reporting is getting worse. Commuters already have to contend with sweltering platforms, scurrying rats and packed train cars, and now there's another transit woe: fear of bedbugs.

Heavy thunderstorms swept through the tri-state on Sunday causing flash floods and lightning strikes that injured 3 people. The three men were struck at Orchard Beach in the Bronx Sunday afternoon and were being treated at a local hospital. Meanwhile, various Labor Day weekend celebrations were interrupted, delayed and even canceled as the U.S. Open tennis tournament had to be postponed and the Electric Zoo musical festival on Randall's Island had to be prematurely shut down.
