NJ Shelter Euthanized 2 Dogs While Owner Was Away

Posted: Updated:
Elizabeth, New Jersey (MY9NJ) -

Jennifer Arteta recently left the country for a couple of weeks to attend to a family emergency. She left her two pit-bulls Daphne and Rocko with her father who agreed to look after them while she was away. Apparently the dogs became too much for her father to handle and he surrendered them to the Elizabeth Animal Shelter.

Jennifer said that when she returned days later and went looking for her dogs the shelter told her that they hadn’t seen them. It wasn’t until she noticed their collars hanging on the wall at the shelter that they admitted that the dogs had been surrendered and euthanized the same day.

“He was like listen, this guy came in and said that he wanted to give up the dogs and we just had to take them and he was like your dogs were put-down that same very day,” she recalled.

New Jersey law says that, except in very specific circumstances, dogs must be held for a minimum of seven-days before being euthanized. Arteta doesn’t understand why the shelter was so quick to put down Daphne and Rocko.

“I have all their vet papers, all their vaccinations, they were both neutered, this is my dog’s city license. Ya know they could have checked up on all of this and asked for more, but they didn’t,” she explained.

Arteta says that her dogs didn’t have any history of aggression that would lead them to be surrendered and euthanized and she said that they both underwent training and were socialized, pleasant and well cared for.

No one at the shelter was able to comment on the situation.

Meanwhile thousands have liked the “Justice for Daphne and Rocko” Facebook page and signed a Change.org petition asking New Jersey to investigate why apparently healthy, happy dogs were allegedly euthanized at the shelter and why a law was broken in the process.

StubHub, which is a website that provides services for buyers and sellers for tickets to sporting events, concerts, and other live entertainment events, has been hacked. StubHub is getting a lot of bad press, but the site is really the victim here. The hackers have hacked accounts from other sites, and then used that information to get into the StubHub accounts.
