Judge to rule Thursday in Alliance AFT home-rule case

Posted: Updated:
A judge will rule Thursday on a temporary restraining order for Alliance AFT in its fight against the home-rule initiative, but he did agree with part of the group’s complaint Wednesday.

Alliance AFT claims the district's appointment process violates Texas law.

It says seven members of the 18-member advisory committee, which selects teachers for the home-rule commission, were appointed and not elected.

The judge agreed, saying some members were there illegally.

Trustees have until June 21 to appoint a charter commission.

The judge also said it's highly unlikely the home-rule initiative will be on the November ballot
