Black Bear Spotted In Westampton Township

Posted: Updated:
WESTAMPTON, N.J. - Westampton Township Police are urging residents and onlookers to keep a safe distance from a bear that was spotted on Wednesday night.

Fox 29’s Thalia Perez says the bear was last spotted at Deerwood Country Club on the boarder of Westampton and Mount Holly.

SkyFOX was trailing the bear up a tree earlier this evening.

This is believed to be the bear that was been on the move for several days.

"We couldn't believe what we saw,’ said resident Maurice Howell. "I saw the bear he was running out, jumped over a persons gate, and through the yard."

Maurice Howell says he and his neighbors all got a glimpse of the black bear that’s been running all over town.

"He was probably like 300 pounds. He wasn't little,” said resident Jennifer Myers.

Neighbors say between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night, the bear was seen behind a vacant house at 67 Dover Road.

Jennifer Myers was able to catch the bear on camera.

Residents say the bear got scared and ran off towards Mount Holly.

"We followed it from Mount Laurel all the way out here. He took a dip in the retention pool and he headed this way,” said resident Dianne Kelly.

If you see the bear, please call Westampton Township Police at (609)267-3000.
