Orange High School’s Unauthorized Grade Changes

Posted: Updated:
Orange, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

Orange, N.J. school officials are trying to get to the bottom of who stole a teacher’s password, logged onto the school system and changed the grades of dozens of students. More than 30 students have been suspended since the grades were changed. Orange Schools Superintendent Ronald Lee said that this matter involves student conduct, unauthorized student record change, as well as violations of the student code of conduct.

However, students like Wennds Myrtil wonder if faculty are over reacting with the suspensions.

“I think it was kind of strange, but we’re all in high school, we all do crazy things to try and you know get popular,” he said.

Another student also chimed in. “I don’t think it’s fair cause some kid might decide to change the grades, but they don’t want to be the only one because it would be suspicious, so they probably changed all the grades,” he shared.

Some parents and adults feel that students are under more pressure than ever these days to do well in school and that could have been the driving force behind this whole situation.

Community activist Duwan Cross says he just hopes it doesn’t give the town of Orange a bad name.

“There’s a lot of pressure on these kids to get into these colleges man and stuff, but I still feel what they did was wrong. If they didn’t earn it, the grades, they shouldn’t be changing the grades,” he said

The Essex County Prosecutor is currently investigating the situation.
