GARLAND, Texas -
A Garland police officer shot and killed a man who was reportedly threatening customers with a knife at a strip center on Friday, according to police.
On Saturday authorities identified the man who was killed as 30-year-old Ismael Sadiq. Police said they got a call about a man who pulled a knife on a customer and demanded money at the Hiep Thai Market, in the 3300 block of West Walnut Street.
Police said when the officer responded, the suspect rushed him with the knife. The officer then shot the suspect numerous times.
Police are investigating, but believe the officer used a shorter range shotgun because he was in a busy parking lot. When that didn’t stop the suspect, he used his service weapon.
Regular shoppers at the store said they’d seen the suspect in the area before.
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is a departmental procedure. He has been a police officer for ten years.
