World's Ugliest Dog Competition Crowns This Year's "Champion"

Posted: Updated:

PETALUMA, CA- The dog days of summer have just begun and so has the World's Ugliest Dog Competition at the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds in Petaluma, California, Saturday.

This year's winner was a two-year-old mutt named Peanut, whose shaggy hair, bulging eyes and protruding teeth overshadowed what his owner says is his sweet energetic personality.

Although Peanut is healthy, his owner, Holly Chandler of Greenville, North Carolina, says he was seriously burned as a puppy.

Peanut has no lips, no eyelids and bald patches. Chandler believes that just adds to his character.

"He's my baby but I guess I just don't see him every day as being that ugly but I guess the judges thought so," she said.

At the end, Peanut's true beauty is seen by the one who loves him the most.

Chandler hopes Peanut's victory will help raise awareness about animal abuse.
