FLOWER MOUND, Texas -
The body of a mountain biker who went missing over the weekend was discovered Monday afternoon, according to Flower Mound police.
Wesley Hixson, 30, of Roanoke, TX had last been seen on the North Shore trail around 10 a.m. Saturday. Police say he was riding with a friend when he crashed on his bike.
The friend told police that Hixson was acting differently after the crash, and it's believed he may have had a head injury. However, the friend said Hixson claimed he was fine and wanted to keep riding. At some point, Hixson and the friend became separated on the trails.
Search teams returned to the wooded area near Lake Grapevine in Flower Mound on Monday to look for Hixson before his body was found around 2:15 p.m. in a ravine northeast of Twin Coves Marina.
Hixson's body will be sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.
Hixson was a father of two and the son of a veteran Arlington Fire Department Lt. Thomas "Bubba" Hixson.
More than 100 Arlington firefighters helped with the search in their own time, along with several other local law enforcement agencies and rescue crews.
Search teams canvassed 1,500 acres around the trail; 600 of it with dogs and the rest on foot and four-wheelers.
