Hometown Hero: Roseann Ferguson

Posted: Updated:
Roseann Ferguson was a longtime teacher at Austin Academy in the Garland ISD.

She loves butterflies, so when she retired, she decided to volunteer at Texas Discovery Gardens because of the butterfly conservatory there.

The gardens have kept Ferguson volunteering there for seven years. She loves them so much that she took the time to earn the title of Master Gardener.

She and the other volunteers in Fair Park cultivate hundreds of flowers and plants native to Texas and teach the public about their characteristics.

Last year, Roseann spent 1,314 hours volunteering at the gardens. It's no surprise she's there five days a week.

If you can't wait until the State Fair of Texas to talk to a master gardener at Texas Discovery Gardens, you can contact one at www.TexasDiscoveryGardens.org or call 214-428-7476, ext. 230.
