I-290 reopens near 25th Avenue after flooding

BROADVIEW, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

The Eisenhower Expressway (I-290) was closed in both directions Tuesday night and into Monday morning near west suburban Broadview because of flooding.

Lanes in both directions were closed at 25th Avenue about 7:15 p.m., according to Illinois State Police. At least one car was stranded in water.

Cleanup crews worked overnight to clear the roads and the lanes were reopened around 2:30 a.m.

As of 9 p.m., more than 85 flights were canceled at O’Hare because of weather conditions, and other flights were experiencing delays averaging 60 minutes, according to the city’s Department of Aviation. Flights at Midway were experiencing delays of up to 90 minutes.Between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., one to two-and-a-half inches of rain fell in the Chicago area as the storm produced 50 mph winds, flooding and lightning, according to the National Weather Service.
