Suspect arrested in I-285 hit-and-run

Posted: Updated:

Authorities have arrested a man they believe is responsible for a fatal hit-and-run on I-285 westbound near Cobb Parkway.

The accident happened on May 18. According to police, Harry Maurent, 30, was struck while trying to cross the ramp after his car ran out of gas on the expressway. He later died.

Maurent's family went to the media to ask for the public's help in locating the person responsible for hitting and killing their son. And on Tuesday, they got a crack in the case.

Authorities received an anonymous tip and were able to locate "a black 2004 Saturn Vue with damage consistent with a high speed pedestrian collision."

John Hendrix Riddle, 34, was arrested and charged with Hit and Run and Driving while license is suspended. Riddle is currently being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
