Former officer on trial for beating handcuffed driver

Posted: Updated:
DALLAS - A former Dallas police officer goes on trial Thursday for allegedly beating a driver.

Former Officer Quaitemes Williams is facing one count of official oppression.

He was fired three years ago after dash camera video showed him punching, kicking and hitting Roderick Lyles.

Lyles was handcuffed and on the ground. He had been pulled over because his license plate did not match the vehicle he was driving.

The city of Dallas paid Lyles $500,000 to settle a civil lawsuit.

If convicted, Williams could be sentenced to up to a year in jail.
