Fort Worth man gets life term for sexually abusing 3-year-old girl

Posted: Updated:

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) - A 28-year-old Fort Worth man facing numerous criminal charges has been sentenced to life in prison for sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl.

Tarrant County prosecutors say Phillip Gene Hernandez was sentenced Thursday and will not be eligible for parole.

Jurors deliberated less than 10 minutes Wednesday before convicting Hernandez of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 6.

Prosecutors say the girl indicated to a family friend in 2012 that Hernandez had hurt her. A police investigation began shortly after.

Authorities say that at the time of his arrest numerous charges were pending against Hernandez, including for robbery, felony theft and burglary of a habitation. They say he was responsible for a crime spree lasting several days in November 2012.
