Judge working on pretrial issues in porch shooting

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -- A judge is planning to settle some disputes over evidence before the upcoming trial of a Dearborn man who fatally shot an unarmed woman on his porch.
Theodore Wafer's attorneys want to introduce evidence of crime in his Dearborn Heights neighborhood to show he was fearful when Renisha McBride was on his porch before dawn.
His lawyers also want jurors to see photos and text messages from her phone to suggest the 19-year-old McBride was an aggressive person.
Wayne County Judge Dana Hathaway is holding a hearing Friday.
McBride was shot in the face on Wafer's porch last November. He's charged with second-degree murder but insists he fired his shotgun in self-defense.

Trial is set for July 21.
