President Obama on Monday said that if Congress doesn't take up immigration reform he may have to look at taking executive action.

The President held a news conference at the White House, lashing out at Congressional Republicans and House Speaker John Boehner for refusing to take up immigration reform this year.

He said that he would go at it alone, using executive action.

"Today I'm beginning a new effort to fix as much of our immigration system as I can, on my own, without Congress," said President Obama.

Joined by Vice President Joe Biden in the Rose Garden, the President said that the American people can expect a recommendation on immigration reform from his office by the end of the summer.

"I've also directed Secretary Johnson and Attorney General Holder to identify additional actions my administration can take on our own, within my existing legal authorities to do what Congress refuses to do, and fix as much of our immigration system as we can. If Congress will not do their job at least we can do ours," he said.

Just minutes after the speech Speaker Boehner took to Twitter saying; "More executive action isn't going to stem the tide of illegal crossings, it's only going to make them worse."

Arizona Senator Jeff Flake echoed that sentiment tweeting; "We're frustrated that IR (immigration reform) hasn't moved in the House, but POTUS dismissing genuine concern about unilateral executive action doesn't help."

Governor Brewer also tweeted out a response. She said the President can complain all he wants, but until he takes concrete action to secure the border and enforce the law, American's won't trust him on immigration.
