Police Search For Alleged Armed Robber Accused Of Luring Victim Through Craigslist

Posted: Updated:

Morristown Police are hunting for a Craigslist user they say lured a man through the website and allegedly robbed him at knifepoint.

Authorities say the victim did everything right and still got fooled by the robber.

According to police, it happened in the parking lot of Moorestown Mall, right by the movie theater.

The victim? Cops say he was just chasing what seemed to be a good deal for an iPhone 5-C.

"It’s very concerning this gentleman was extremely fortunate that he wasn't injured. This gentleman came at him with a knife,” said Moorestown Township Police Department Lt. Lee R. Lieber.

Authorities say around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday evening, a 43-year-old Gibbsboro man was responding to a Craigslist ad selling a brand new iPhone for a steal of $275, which is half the retail price.

Instead of a phone, cops say, the supposed seller brought a knife.

And tried to hold up the victim for the cash he knew was on him.

According to police, the victim pushed past the armed robber and called for help.

"There was a lot of people close by, so this guy obviously got scared the bad guy and he took off also,” said Lt. Lieber.

Moorestown Police say they do have surveillance video from the parking lot. They haven't released it yet, but they're piecing it together to try to track down this suspect. As always, they want anybody using Craigslist to be safe and stay alert.
