One dead, three injured in Comanche fireworks explosion

Posted: Updated:
A trailer loaded with fireworks for a Fourth of July show exploded and killed one person Thursday morning.

City officials said the explosion happened just before 9 a.m. near the Comanche High School football stadium. Members of the Comanche Kiwanis Club were unloading fireworks from the trailer when the incident occurred.

Dr. Russell C. Reynolds, a chiropractor in Comanche, was killed in the explosion. Three others were injured, with at least one rushed to the hospital by helicopter.

This year's fireworks show was advertised as the largest ever in Comanche, with almost 4,000 rounds to be fired. It was canceled because of the tragic accident.

The State Fire Marshals Office will investigate the cause of the blast.

Comanche is about 100 miles southwest of Fort Worth.
