Motorists using the Illinois Tri-State Tollway (I-294) will experience overnight closures starting Tuesday because of construction geared towards road mobility improvement.
The construction work will begin at 9 p.m., Monday, but full closures will start at 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to a statement from the Illinois Tollway. The ramp heading northbound on 1-294 to 75th street will be closed overnight and reopen at 5a.m. that Wednesday, July 9, before closing at a similar time that following night.
Motorists traveling northbound on I-294 can use a detour by exiting on Wolf Road, heading north to Joliet Road east, and then south on Gilbert Road towards 75th street, the tollway said.
The construction is part of a $12 billion capital program which will ultimately improve mobility, relieve congestion, and create employment opportunities through revamping the Illinois Tollway system, according to the statement.
Once the scheduled ramp work is completed, the ramp carrying 75th Street traffic northbound to I-294 will close for three additional weeknights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Motorists can access a detour by traveling north on Gilbert Road and then head east on 1-55, which will merge onto I-294.?
