A man who sought help at a Dallas church died Monday morning.
The incident happened just before 6 a.m. at the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship on Camp Wisdom Road.
Members of a prayer group said a man walked in saying he had been stabbed and needed help. They called 911, but he died before police and paramedics arrived.
Police said at a Monday afternoon press conference the man, identified as Linton Wilgus, 43, was combative with the churchgoers as they tried to help him. At one point he lunged at one of the church members.
Wilgus was not a member of the church.
"Our members are okay. They're doing fine. This was a non-member affected by this emergency. Everything is going on as far as our program with our school as normal," said Dr. Tony Evans, the Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship senior pastor.
Police towed an older model Ford Mustang from the church parking lot. It is unclear if it belonged to the victim.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the man's cause of death. Dallas police said he had puncture wounds to the neck.
