Mother of girl who died falling from moving car charged

Posted: Updated:
A Crowley mother whose child died after falling off the hood of a moving car has been charged, according to police.

Yasmin Lewis faces a charge of reckless injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.

Lewis was riding in a car last month when her daughter, 12-year-old Octavia Watkins, and several other children were told to ride on the hood and trunk because their swimsuits were still wet from the pool.

Watkins and three others fell off the car. Watkins died June 25.

The driver of the car, Kisha Young, was charged with intoxication assault because police say she was drunk during the incident.

Lewis is out of jail on a $15,000 bond.

The Tarrant County District Attorney’s office is now investigating the case.
