Detroit Police Graffiti Task Force

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - To some graffiti is art but to a lot of people it's an eye sore.  If you're a business owner it can cost you thousands to clean up.  Last week Dan Gilbert used his extensive network to catch some taggers who defaced a building in downtown Detroit.  It turns out they were three teens from Grosse Pointe.

In southwest Detroit business owners are painting murals on the walls because taggers seem to respect them and leave them alone.  Some business owners are asking the graffiti artists to join their side, offering art classes and way to create more permanent art.

Detroit Police are asking the public to help stem the graffiti tide asking the public to report taggers by calling 313-235-4359 or e-mail: scrapgrassdump@detroit.gov.  It part of a new initiative the police are referring to as a graffiti task force.
