Father of slain Arlington toddler speaks out

Posted: Updated:
A grieving father spoke out Wednesday about the death of his 18-month-old daughter, Tylea Moore.

Police arrested the child’s mother, 17-year-old Alexis Botello, on Monday night. She was charged with tampering with evidence and injury to a child.

Police say Botello was there when her boyfriend, 20-year-old Joshua Beard, allegedly beat Moore to death on July 4. Police say that Botello helped bury the girl under a bridge near Springtown.

Even though Botello has been arrested and charged, the toddler’s father, Chris Moore, does not believe Botello was a willing participant in the crime.

“I hope that they see that she was in an abusive relationship,” said Chris. “I mean, we have pictures of bruises all over her.”

Chris last saw Tylea when he was home earlier this year on leave from the Marines. He says he doesn't blame Botello and believes she was likely coerced.

Chris was there when Botello was arrested.

“My heart dropped…whenever I watched them put the cuffs on her and put her in the car and say I couldn't talk to her anymore…I screamed at her and told her I loved her,” said Chris.

Botello and Beard are both being held in the Arlington jail. Botello’s bond is set at $125,000, while Beard’s is more than $1 million.

“I can’t believe there’s evil like that in the world,” said Chris. “I didn’t think there was even capable of doing what he did.”

Chris says he and Beard grew up in the same neighborhood and even hung out together as kids.
