Doctors 'pleased' with surgery results for girl mauled by raccoon

Posted: Updated:
(WJBK) - Hospital officials tell Fox 2 the rare surgery to give a Michigan girl a new ear has ended, and say her doctor is pleased with the result.

Charlotte Ponce's face was severely disfigured when she was attacked by a raccoon as a baby. She has had several reconstructive surgeries since.

The most recent surgery, to give Charlotte a second ear, lasted several hours on Thursday at Beaumont Children's Hospital.

Doctors crafted the ear from Charlotte's rib cartilage. Then, they placed it in her arm to grow a skin mold around it. Late Thursday afternoon doctors finished the complicated process of attaching the ear to Charlotte's head.
