Sheriff's deputies and federal marshals arrested a man wanted for cheating elderly people in a home repair scheme.
For more than a month, Parker County sheriff's investigators have been looking for Gregory Long.An anonymous tip led them to him at a casino in Oklahoma.
Long was wanted for scamming at least two elderly Parker County residents out of thousands of dollars.
He has been charged with theft. Two of his associates were also arrested on theft charges.
“He's got enough that he's able togo and gamble it away, so far as we know, that's his only livelihood,” said Joe Harn with the Garland Police Department.
Investigators said Long and an accomplice posed as workers for an electric company, told the homeowners they had a short, pretended to do some work and then convinced them to pay up. A woman in one case paid $10,000.
By the time that victims caught on and tried to cancel their checks, it was too late -- the checks had already been cashed.
Investigators said Long had been wanted for questioning or has warrants out for his arrest in four other Texas cities. They believe he scammed people in at least three other states as well.
Police are looking for two other suspects connected to the fraud cases.
