PHOENIX (AP) - A Mesa resident convicted of killing a man with a hammer and dumping the victim's body in the desert has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

Maricopa County prosecutors say 32-year-old Genaro Silva was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in February.

Court records show Silva says he found his girlfriend together with 39-year-old Daniel Barraza Gomez in her Mesa apartment in March 2013.

Silva told authorities he attacked Gomez with a hammer, hitting him multiple times.

Records show Silva and another man rolled Gomez's body in bedding, took it into the desert on the Salt River Reservation, doused it in gasoline and set in on fire.

Silva and three other defendants in the case have been ordered to split a restitution payment of more than $14,000.
