Man allegedly murders girlfriend days before he was to report to prison

GLENDALE, Ariz. - A Glendale man was arrested in the murder of his girlfriend; police believe he shot her during an argument on Friday. FOX 10 has learned this happened days before the suspect was supposed to report to prison.

Alex Felter was supposed to report to prison Monday. Glendale Police say the two were fighting when he shot his girlfriend in the head.

He's just 24 years-old, and police say he and his girlfriend have a history of domestic violence.

On Friday, police found him in front of their home near 51st Ave. & Northern. He told the responding officers, "Get in here quick, I shot her."

According to court documents, at first Felter told police that during an argument with his girlfriend Deanna Aguillar, he drew his gun and when she reached for it, the gun went off.

But police found evidence suggesting the victim was sitting down when she was shot. There were also red marks on her neck.

When confronted with that evidence, Felter changed his story a bit. He told police he laid the gun on top of her head after taking the gun from her, and being in full control of the gun, he pulled the trigger claiming he did not know it was loaded.

Multiple witnesses told police they saw Felter running through the neighborhood after the shooting. He told officers he returned after calling his mom.

Court documents also showed he was set to begin serving a 2 and 1/2 year sentence for strangling Aguillar in a previous incident.
