Recalled Senate President Pearce lands county job

PHOENIX (AP) - Former Arizona Senate President Russell Pearce has been offered a job with the Maricopa County Treasurer's office.

Pearce says he's been offered a job overseeing human resources, legislative outreach, budget and senior citizen outreach. He says he's not sure if he'll take the position.

Treasurer Charles "Hos" Hoskins says he offered Pearce the $85,000 a year job because he has the experience to jump-start a program to help low-income seniors with their taxes. Pearce can't start right away, so Hoskins says it's unclear if he'll actually be hired.

Pearce became the first Arizona legislator ever recalled when he was ousted in 2011 after the Republican sponsored Senate Bill 1070 cracking down on illegal immigration.

Pearce previously ran the state Motor Vehicle Division and was a chief deputy Maricopa County sheriff.
