VIDEO: Detroit restaurant customers robbed at gunpoint

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - A trip for carryout had some customers fearing for their lives when a gunman held up a Detroit restaurant.

"When you first hear gunshots, the first thing that comes to your head is get down," says Captain J's Chicken and Fish employee Miles Taylor.

Surveillance video captured him and other employees as they hit the deck at restaurant on the city's east side. They crouched behind the bulletproof glass as soon as a man who was wielding a gun walked in the door. Customers in the lobby were fully exposed.

We're told the gunman, who didn't do anything to conceal his identity, entered the store and immediately fired off a shot then threatened to shoot again if money wasn't handed over.

Before he fired off the blue steel semi automatic handgun seen in his left hand in the surveillance video, police say he threw a bag on the ground and then ordered everyone to empty their pockets.

Customers throw down money, jewelry and anything else they have. They hand it all over to the gunman - including their chicken dinners.

The whole ordeal was captured on the restaurant's 16 surveillance cameras and lasted only a few minutes. The suspect left behind a set of car keys.

A first for this chain restaurant, owners assure Fox 2 they plan to tighten security as police continue search for the gunman.

If you recognize the suspect you're asked to call police.
