NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Police and other law enforcement officers paid tribute to Officer Melvin Santiago, 23, on Wednesday. The rookie Jersey City officer was shot and killed responding to a 911 burglary call from a drug store. Police then shot and killed the alleged gunman, Lawrence Campbell.

Mayor Steven Fulop is trying to downplay reports that members of the Bloods street gang have ordered retaliation against police officers but some law enforcement officers are taking the threat seriously.

Fox 5 News has obtained a memo distributed by the New Jersey State Police warning that new intelligence shows a specific threat. The memo says in part, "The Bloods street gang has called upon other Bloods sects that fall under the United Blood Nation to take retaliatory action against police officers who are working a traffic post on the Pulaski Skyway construction detail."

A shrine for the dead gunman drew ire and it was eventually ordered to be taken down by city officials.

The wake for Officer Santiago will be held Thursday. His funeral will be on Friday. Sources told tell Fox 5 News that some officers may be taking the unusual step of wearing bullet proof vests and carrying their guns just in case.

On Wednesday, dozens of cops came to Newark Liberty Airport to escort a 9/11 Honor Flag from an American Airlines flight to the funeral home. The 9/11 Honor Flag has traveled across the country to honor fallen heroes. Officer Santiago was a member of the Hispanic Law Enforcement Association. His fellow members requested the presence of the honor flag, which will be draped over the coffin.

Burger chain Five Guys is testing the adage that everything tastes better with bacon. It is rolling out a customizable milkshake program and along with bananas, peanut butter, Oreo cookies, salted caramel, you can chose bacon.  Yes that's right: a bacon milkshake.
