Funeral home operater being investigated arrested on unrelated charge

Posted: Updated:
Police arrested the owner of a troubled Fort Worth funeral home on Wednesday night.

Dondre Johnson was booked in the Tarrant County jail after police found during their investigation that Johnson had a warrant for failing to pay child support.

Johnson is one of the owners of the Johnson Family Mortuary.

Earlier this week, the funeral home’s landlord reported finding decaying bodies inside the building on Handley Street. He evicted the business two weeks ago.

The bodies were of six adults and two stillborn infants.

Yvonne Stewart learned that her aunt, Helen Jones had not been cremated in April as Stewart says she was supposed to be. Jones’ body was one of the eight found.

The body of Victoria Vasquez had also been inside for possibly more than a month.

"I apologize, I apologize, that's, I apologize,” the mortuary’s co-owner, Rachel Johnson, said to the Vasquezes on Wednesday.

She also returned the $150 the Vasquez family paid for an urn -- only a fraction of what they paid for the cremation that was never done.

"There was mistakes that was made and I am here to say I can own up to that,” said Rachel.
