Teen arrested in Dallas fatal hit-and-run, sources say

Posted: Updated:
Dallas police sources tell FOX 4 that a teenage girl without a driver’s license was arrested in connection to a Wednesday fatal hit-and-run crash.

The crash happened in the middle of the intersection at Walnut Hill Lane and Brockbank Drive, resulting in the death of
27-year-old motorcyclist Kris Stroman.

Police say
Stroman was driving his motorcycle eastbound on Walnut Hill Lane as a van was heading westbound. The van then reportedly turned left onto Brockbank in front of Stroman, sending him hitting it and flying off of his bike.

Witnesses told police that the van sped into a nearby apartment complex. An abandoned van was towed hours later.

Stroman was driving home from his job at a jet engine shop in Irving. He had recently changed his hours and route to avoid the highway, thinking that surface streets were safer for motorcyclists.

When Stroman wasn't home by 6 p.m., his girlfriend, Katie Fox, went looking for him and found a news story online saying a motorcyclist had been hurt and taken to Parkland Hospital, where he later died.

“He was hardheaded, he was stubborn; but he had a heart of gold,” said Fox.

Police won't confirm charges or say if more arrests will be coming. They also won’t say if the suspect was a driver or a passenger in the van.

“I know that she's a juvenile, but I want her to be charged as an adult and I want her to get what she deserves,” said Fox.

Stroman and Fox had recently bought a house together in Garland and planned to marry.

Fox says Stroman always wore his helmet, even when moving his beloved blue bike from the back of the house to the front.

“This was nothing about him not being safe,” said Fox. “It was just someone being reckless.”

Stroman grew up in Tyler and then spent eight years in the Air Force, where he was stationed in Alaska and Japan.

He loved tattoos, motorcycles and wrestling.

Fox says she will miss his smile, his jokes and the life they planned together.

“It hasn't sunken in yet,” she said. “I'm still expecting him to walk through the door right now.”

Stroman’s funeral will be held Tuesday in Tyler.
