Sterling Heights police lieutenant accused of drunken driving

Posted: Updated:
STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) - A Sterling Heights police lieutenant has been arrested on the suspicion of drunken driving.

Thursday night, police say Lt. Kevin Reese, spokesperson for the Sterling Heights Police Department, was involved in a single car accident in Shelby Township near west Utica and Mound roads. After a field sobriety test and breathalyzer, Shelby Township police arrested him for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Then, the rumors started flying that his brother, Sterling Heights Police Chief Michael Reese, had tried to intervene and prevent an arrest.

No one from the city would comment on camera but Fox 2's Amy Lange spoke with the police chief briefly by phone. She reports he says there is no truth to rumors that he's resigning because he interfered in his brother's arrest, and that he's still chief and says he's not going anywhere.

A spokesman for the city of Sterling Heights says this matter involves only Kevin Reese, who is being placed on paid administrative leave pending the normal legal process and an ongoing internal investigation, as well as an evaluation to determine his fitness for duty.

Police have not revealed Reese's blood alcohol level or details of his one-car accident, but say he will likely be arraigned this week.
