Detroit family's Dodge Charger stolen from driveway

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) - On Sunday someone stole Kim Green's 2008 Dodge Charger right out of her driveway on Detroit's east side. Her only car that she and her husband use to get to work is now gone.
Green tells us the thieves disabled her neighbor's camera that would have caught the crime, then busted out the window of her charger and took off with it. The entire crime took only minutes.
"We work hard to get everything that we have. My thing is this, you could go out and do the same thing! All you've got to do is get a job, and you're just trying to take what other people got. And that's not right," says Green.
Police worked quick and found the car Monday morning about five minutes from Green's home, but it looks nothing like it did before. It's now missing the hood, trunk and four doors.
Green says when she originally reported the crime to the 9th precinct many others were also there complaining about stolen Chargers and that officers told her they were on the look out for a suspect with a flatbed tow truck.

A spokesperson for DPD confirms that make of car is popular among thieves along with that way of taking them, but could not confirm a pattern right now.
Statewide statistics show July and August actually top the times of year for car thefts, but there are some common sense things you can do to protect yourself like locking your doors, never leaving valuables in your vehicle and parking in well-lit areas when possible.
