Robbers aiming for jewelry store strike auto repair store instead

AURORA, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Two employees of a west suburban auto repair business were tied up Tuesday morning when robbers apparently mistook them for employees of the jewelry store in the front of the building.

About 11:50 a.m., a man and a woman armed with rifles entered Technically Automotive at 1905 N. Farnsworth Ave. in unincorporated Aurora Township, where a jewelry store is located in the front of the building. They demanded the employees give them jewelry, a statement from the Kane County Sheriff’s office said.

When the victims said they had no jewelry, the suspects tied them up and forced them into a bathroom at the business. The suspects ran off after taking about $2,000 in cash from one of the victims, police said.

One of the suspects is described as a 30- to 40-year-old black man, 5-foot-10 to 6-foot and about 200 pounds, police said. He was wearing a black baseball hat, white pants, dark shoes, dark-rimmed glasses with curved amber lenses, and gardening gloves, police said.

The other suspect is a black woman between 25 and 35, about 6-foot-2 and 145-150 pounds, police said. She was wearing a dark or black baseball hat, dark hoodie, baggy clothes and had a gold stud piercing in her tongue.
