Vigil for Utah teens killed in Arizona plane crash

Posted: Updated:

CLINTON, Utah (AP) - Family and friends gathered for a candlelight vigil in a northern Utah park Tuesday evening to remember two teenage brothers who died in a small plane crash in northern Arizona on Sunday.

Several hundred people joined in a prayer, lit candles and signed basketballs and jerseys honoring 19-year-old Daulton Whatcott and 16-year-old Jaxon Whatcott.

Authorities say Daulton Whatcott was flying a single-engine Cessna when it crashed south of the Virgin River Gorge.

Family spokeswoman Taunie Reynolds says Daulton was a newly licensed pilot and was taking Jaxon to a basketball tournament in Las Vegas.

Syracuse High School Principal Wendy Nelson said  that a grief counselor has been helping students at the school, which both boys attended.

She says the family has been strong and comforting the teenagers' mourning friends.
