Fire displaces Arlington families, one resident hailed hero

Posted: Updated:
ARLINGTON, Texas - Four Arlington families are homeless after an early morning apartment fire Sunday.

Fire fighters spent more than an hour battling the flames at a complex in the 4000 block of Woodland Park Boulevard.

Juan Contreras was cleaning a pool when he saw the flames and he ran over barefoot to help.

“I just don’t want nobody to get hurt. And I’m thinking, you know, if there is someone inside asleep, you know, it’s Sunday and people are up late. It’s crazy,” he said.

Contreras banged on doors, screaming for people to get out.

Neighbors remember a chaotic scene.

Gail Savage recalls screaming. She says, they were “trying to get help because there were young kids there as well.”

In all, four apartments were destroyed. No one was injured, except Contreras who sprained his ankle.
