Police are investigating after they say four suspects recently robbed and killed a college student in Pleasant Grove.
David Pimentel, 22, was shot Monday night, even after willingly giving up his cell phone, wallet and car keys.
Prior to the shooting, Pimentel was at the home of his best friend, Charber De La Paz. They played cards, watched movies and talked.
At 9:30 Monday night, Pimentel was about to head home.
“He had said goodbye to my parents, he said goodbye to his friend, and he and my brother were outside talking and he was turning to get in his car,” said Lillian De La Paz, a friend of Pimentel’s.
Charber told his family and Dallas police that four men drove by the pair talking at the corner of Huttig and Utica, turned around and then confronted them, demanding Pimentel's belongings at gunpoint.
“He did not try to resist,” said Lillian.
But one shot took his life.
“I was inside and we heard the gunshot, and we assumed it was just a firecracker, and then my brother came running in, saying, ‘They shot David!’” said Lillian.
Police say the suspects drove away in a white four-door vehicle, but Charber was too stunned to remember much else.
His family is still in disbelief that Pimentel was killed right outside their door.
Pimentel would have been a senior at UTD in the fall, majoring in finance.
“I would love to have justice for David because he didn't deserve any of this,” said Lillian.
FOX 4 tried to speak to Pimentel’s family, but we didn’t hear back from them.
Police say since robbery was involved, they're treating the death as a capital murder offense.
