The second Wylie East High School teen suspected of murdering a classmate will be tried as an adult, officials announced Thursday.
Prosecutors said Adam Staup, 16, held Ivan Mejia's nose while his friend stuffed a rag into Mejia's mouth, strangling and killing Mejia in March.
A judge last week ruled that the other suspect, Brenden Bridges, 17, will be tried as an adult for Mejia’s murder.
Staup's attorney argued Bridges killed Mejia and manipulated Staup.
Prosecutors said Staup and Bridges planned and executed the murder over Mejia's girlfriend, who Bridges had feelings for.
Both teens face up to 40 years in prison.
