OFFICER KILLED: 'He said, 'Hey, can I use your mom's car?'

Posted: Updated:
ST. PAUL, Minn. (KMSP) -

Over the last few months, he came to know Brian George Fitch Sr. as a friend -- and he admits he thought nothing of it when the 39-year-old asked to ditch his vehicle in the back yard and take a different one.

"He said, 'Hey, can I use your mom's car? I'll pay her,'" Jesse, whose last name is being withheld by Fox 9 News, explained. "Said, 'Yeah, come over.' Parked it. That was that."

Jesse said he had no idea Fitch had just killed Mendota Heights Police Officer Scott Patrick. That is, until the cops showed up outside the home last night.

"I came outside and they had guns drawn," he recalled.

Jesse, who lives with his mother in St. Paul, explained that he got to know Fitch over the last few months and said the request he made on Wednesday didn't strike him as unusual.

"Cops know him, and he doesn't want people to know he's around," Jesse explained.

While he was stashing the forest green Pontiac Grand Am in the backyard in exchange it for the silver SUV owned by Jesse's mother, Jesse said he appeared to be "as cool as can be."

"Like normal, calm," Jesse described. "You wouldn't have thought he did anything."
